Totally Tasty is all about supporting brands that go the extra mile to improve their products for consumers. Innovations like compostable crisp packets are exactly what we want to support. In the UK alone it is estimated that over 215 billion items of flexible plastic packaging are consumed each year, and less than 15% of UK waste collection authorities collect them leaving billions for landfill.
On top of plastic waste, we believe in reducing carbon emissions through efficient planning, reduction efforts and behavioural changes. We have achieved Planet Mark certification for 4 years in a row, highlighting our commitment.
We work with a wide range of brands who make an effort to reduce and eradicate the harm they do to the environment. We’ve put together a list of initiatives that brands we work with have implemented to provide a tangible benefit.
We believe change starts at the top. When the people in charge care, they put future generations before profit.
Two Farmers have their very own, and world’s first, compostable crisp packets. They are made from locally sourced ingredients, plastic-free and industry recognised.
Our CEO, John Thurgood did his own experiment documenting the breakdown of various crisp packets. One was a traditional packet from a household brand, a 100% recyclable packet from the British Crisp Company and a compostable packet from Two Farmers.
The British Crisp Co created the world’s first fully recyclable crisp packet and won The Grocer’s New Product & Packaging Award 2024 and the UK Packaging Awards 2024. The packets are made of paper and are designed to be recycled with paper; however, they also naturally biodegrade in a few weeks.
On top of these sustainable packaging moves, both brands invest in sustainable farming practices. Working towards net zero, practicing regenerative farming and lower emissions through tracking food miles.
DASH has a range of programs that focus on sustainability, but for them it starts with the product – all their drinks are made from ‘wonky’ fruit, the stuff that supermarkets won’t accept and would go to waste otherwise. They ensure that they pay farmers fairly for the fruit too, no undercutting based on aesthetics!
DASH is also a B Corporation, further highlighting their commitment to sustainability through being transparent and accountable every step of the way.
Other brands like Frobishers and Flawsome! use wonky fruit in their products, supporting the same mission – a less wasteful society and healthier people. Frobishers uses wonky fruit in varying amounts across their drinks range. Flawsome! uses wonky fruit in all of their drinks, apart from their sparkling juices which are made from 60% wonky fruit.
